Why is a guardian required to create a digital profile?
Per the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), golfers designated as minors (under 13 years of age) will not be able to provide an email address, create a digital profile, or directly access GHIN Golfer Products (Kiosk, GHIN Mobile App, ghin.com). Their profile must be linked to a guardian who can access ghin.com or the GHIN Mobile App and post on their behalf.
What will change when the digital profile is released in January of 2021?
Minors will not be able to enter an email address to create a digital profile. Access will be restricted from the GHIN Kiosk, ghin.com, and the GHIN Mobile App. Once a guardian is linked to the golfer’s profile, the guardian can access ghin.com and the GHIN Mobile App to post on the minor’s behalf.
How can a score be posted for a minor in 2021?
A guardian will be able to login to ghin.com and the GHIN Mobile App and choose which golfer they are posting a score for, whether it is themselves or any minors tied to their account within the USGA Admin Portal. A Club Admin can also post a score on behalf of the minor in the USGA Admin Portal.
At what age is a golfer considered a minor?
A minor is defined as a golfer who is under 13 years of age per the date of birth in their golfer profile. Their profile must be linked to a guardian who can access ghin.com or the GHIN Mobile App and post on their behalf.
At what age is a golfer considered a junior?
A golfer is considered a junior when they are between the ages of 13 and 18 per the date in their golfer profile. Juniors do not have to have a guardian assigned to them, but one can be assigned to them from the age of 13 through the age of 18. A junior will need to have either an email address or a guardian. The Junior can have both an email and a guardian.
Does a guardian have to be a golfer and have a GHIN number?
No, a guardian does not have to be a golfer or have a GHIN number to be assigned to a minor.
What information will need to be provided for a guardian?
If available the GHIN number of a guardian will be collected. It is not a requirement that the guardian has a GHIN number. In addition, the guardian’s first and last name, email address, and the relationship to the minor (e.g. parent, coach) will be collected.
Can more than one guardian be assigned to a minor?
Yes, more than one guardian can be assigned to a minor. For instance, a father and a mother (and even a coach) can be assigned to one minor. All active guardians can access ghin.com or the GHIN Mobile App and post on their behalf.
